The Republic of Belarus is an industrial state with diversified agriculture. The leading branches are presented by automotive industry, chemical and petrochemical, textile and food industries.
Belarus’ top ten products, the global share of which ranges between from 30% to 0.6%, include the following:
- Dump trucks
- Tractors
- Refrigerators
- Potash fertilizers
- Flax
- Chemical fibers and threads
- Woolen fabrics
- Potato
- Animal oil
- Milk
The dominating trends in agriculture are cattle breeding, poultry husbandry, production of grain, potatoes and flax.
A stage-by-stage reforming of the economy during the last eight years ensures economic growth and social stability in Belarus.
Belarus takes 64th place out of 177 countries in terms of human development (Human Development Index). Moreover, it is the leader among the CIS members in the corresponding terms (2007-2008).
Belarus is the leader among the CIS members in terms of installation of telecommunication networks among population – 36.5 telephone sets per a hundred of residents (for comparison: Russia has 23 telephone sets installed, the Ukraine - 26). More than 6 mln. of people are subscribers of mobile network operators. More that a million of the Republic’s resident have computers. More than 70% of students and more than 15% of employees use the Internet regularly.
At the present stage, the Republic’s administration focuses its efforts to create macroeconomic conditions needed to increase production and innovative activities, attract foreign investments.
The complex of measures to improve financial and economic indicators of the enterprises belonging to real sector of the economy is being implemented. These are: rise in profitability, reduction of debt, increase in paying capacity and liquidity.
