FEZ “Gomel-Raton”
The free economic zone “Gomel-Raton” was established in 1998 in Gomel Region. According to its structure it is a complex FEZ which includes production, export and free customs zones. As of the end of 2008 “Gomel-Raton” numbered 36 registered residents.
The Gomel free economic zone has companies operating with participation of foreign funds from 10 countries: Russia, Germany, France, Czechia, Liechtenstein, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Poland, Switzerland, the USA. The FEZ territory has high-tech base of enterprises employed in the field of radioelectronics, instrument-making, machine-building, electrotechnical and cable industries, having free operating areas, storage facilities, developed infrastructure, full complex of utilities. The availability of free areas near these utilities creates favourable conditions to implement new investment projects.
The share of direct foreign investments of FEZ “Gomel-Raton” residing companies in total direct foreign investments of the Gomel Region made 53.1%, Gomel’s share totaled 57.9%. The residing companies are employed in chemical industry, machine-building and metal-working, wood-working and pulp and paper industries, construction materials producing industry, glass and food industries. FEZ “Gomel-Raton” administration is interested in the development of science-intensive, innovative and wholesome productions on the territory of the FEZ.
One of the prospective FEZ “Gomel-Raton” residing companies is the Russian private production unitary enterprise “VEZA-G”. It is successfully implementing the project “Climatic Equipment Production” stipulating setting up production of major air conditioners new for the Republic of Belarus. Since the beginning of operation as the FEZ resident the volume of funds invested amounted to 2.1 mln. USD, with the share of fixed capital at amount of 0.8 mln. USD.
