Transport and Communications

 
The Republic of Belarus carries our passenger transportation by five transport means such as vehicular, railway, air, and public electric transport including trolleybuses, trams and metro.
 
Passenger public transport is of an exclusive social importance for the Republic. It conveys 76% of passengers.
 
In order to convey passengers by public vehicular transport the Republic has arranged 732 scheduled bus routes, 2585 scheduled suburban routes, 500 scheduled routes in interurban traffic. Nowadays, there function over 100 of scheduled international bus routes to Germany, Poland, Czechia, Hungary, the CIS and Baltic States.
 
International cargo and passengers transportations along Belarus are carried out by the national and foreign transport; they mainly use three transport corridors: №2 – Western Europe States-Brest-Minsk-Moscow; № 9 - South-East Europe States-Ukraine-Republic of Belarus-Finland; № 9Б – Gomel-Minsk-Vilnius-Klaipeda/Kaliningrad.
 
An important role in the sustenance of Belarusian economy belongs to railway. Nowadays, its share accounts for nearly 60% of passenger turnover. Its service area borders on the Oktiabrskaya and Moskovskaya railways of Russia, Ugo-Zapadnaya and Lvovskaya railways of the Ukraine, railways of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland.
 
Municipal electric transport of the Republic is paid a priority attention to. Wide introduction of this kind of transport will allow to significantly improve ecological environment in 17 major cities with the number of population exceeding 5 mln. of residents and 70% of urban population of the Republic. It will also lessen financial burden on local budgets since the cost of passenger transportation by this transport is lower as compared to buses.
 
Belarus has a network of airports connecting it with 30 CIS cities, and two international airports conducting flights to a number of European, Asian and American cities and towns. Operating fleet of Belarusian civil aviation includes11 types of aircraft and 84 airplanes.
 
Expansion of the country’s business activities and establishment of new international contacts is connected with availability of fast and effective communication system. Currently, Belarus is continuing to develop its telephone communication. One can use intercity and international telephone communication by means of different telephone sets over the entire Republic.
 

The Internet is the most convenient and widespread type of communication nowadays. Belarusian providers offer a wife range of Internet services.
