In order to make an international call one shall press “8”, then wait for a long dial tone, press “10”, code of the country you are ringing up, code of an inhabited locality and telephone number.

It is worth mentioning that the majority of ground telephone lines have pulse dialing. Only some of them have function of tone dialing.

There are 4 cellular operators working in Belarus. One is operating in analogue standard on NMT and digital standard of CDMA2000 – Dialog, the rest three in digital GSM standard - VELCOM, МТС, БеСТ.

Mobile phone operators offer cell phone rental service for a term of your stay in the country. For more information please visit the cellular operators’ web-sites.

The network of pay telephones is properly developed in the majority of Belarusian towns; however, most of them do not provide the function of international calls. All-purpose payphones can be found only in large cities. All-purpose payphones in small towns are installed at the central post office (pochtampt).

One can call from a payphone using a special telephone card. Cash, credit or payment cards do not fit for these purposes. The telephone cards are on sale at post offices and newsstands.
