Trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is one of the twenty main trade partners of Belarus. According to the results of 2018, among all the trading partners of the Republic of Belarus, the Czech Republic took 19th place in terms of turnover, 24th place in terms of exports and 14th place in terms of imports.

According to Belstat, in 2018, mutual trade turnover amounted to $393.2 million or 135.5% compared to 2017. The volume of exports to the Czech Republic was $117.5 million (126.8% compared to 2017), the volume of exports excluding raw materials (oil, oil products, petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons, potash and nitrogen fertilizers) reached the highest indicator in the history of bilateral relations — $112.7 million (124.7% compared to 2017). Import volume amounted to $275.7 million (139.6% compared to 2017). The balance of trade in goods was negative — $158.2 million.

The turnover of services with the Czech Republic in 2018 amounted to $118.2 million (124.9% of the level of 2017), export of services — $102.3 million (129.6%), import of services — $15.9 million (101.1%). The balance was positive — $86.3 million (improved by $23.1 million).

Although there are no large national investment companies in the Czech Republic, it is one of the biggest investor of Belarus among the EU countries. At the same time, due to the peculiarities of registration of head companies, actual investments from the Czech Republic are significantly larger, because they are taken into account as investments from Cyprus, the Netherlands and Austria.
