Usually the prime minister is the leader of the political party or coalition of parties having the most seats in parliament. Legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.

Trade and economic cooperation between Belarus and Luxembourg

In 2016, trade turnover between Belarus and Luxembourg increased by 132.9% by $8.84 million as compared to 2015, Belarusian exports — by 123.9% to $2.54 million, Luxembourgian exports — by 136.9% to $6.3 million. Trade deficit was $3.76 million.

Belarus mainly exports metal cord and articles of plastics to Luxembourg. It supplies optic apparatus, liquid crystal devices, medical apparatus in small quantities and in regular manner.

A drop in supplies of Belarusian metal cord to this country has been witnessed since 2013, because the main consumer Goodyear company has switched to the products from China.

In January — October 2017, Belarusian exports increased by 104.8% to $2.3 million as compared to the same period of 2016, Luxembourgian exports — by 125.1% to $6.6 million. Trade deficit was $4.3 million.

The third countries, including Belarus, shall follow the EU legislation to supply their goods and services to Luxembourg. In addition, the EU tariff and non-tariff barriers restrain exports of Belarusian companies.

The following requirements are applied to the products, imported by Luxembourg from the non-EU countries:

  • sanitary and phytosanitary requirements;
  • environmental requirements;
  • technical requirements;
  • quality standards;
  • licensing
