MINSK - Belarus’ cell phone import reduced by 29.7% on the year in Jan-Mar 2019 to 394,642 units ($57.599 million – down 14.3% year on year in value terms), according to preliminary customs statistics data.
China accounted for 27% of Belarus’ cell phone imports in Jan-Mar 2019, while the share of Russia stood at 27%.
However, in comparison with the 2018 data, the share of officially imported cell phones is on the rise. This may result from the use of alternative import schemes (purchases from foreign online stores), and affordable credit offers from mobile operators.
As previously reported, Belarus’ cell phone import grew 16% on the year in 2018 to 2.577 million units worth $343.269m (up 31%).
