Belarus’ electricity export to Lithuania up 55% in Jan-May 2019 to 755.4m kWh

MINSK – Belarus increased electricity exports to Lithuania by 55% year on year in January-May 2019 to 755.4 million kWh, according to official statistical reports.

In value terms, Belarus’ proceeds from electricity export to Lithuania grew by 71% year on year in Jan-May 2019 to $37.074 million.

In 2018, Belarus’ electricity exports to Lithuania grew by 7 times to 1.0140 billion kWh. In value terms – up 7.8 times to $54.629 million (an increase of $47.668m).

Belarus exports electricity to the Lithuanian sector of the Nord Pool Spot market on a day-ahead basis, with no long-term deals made between the supplier and consumers.

Therefore, the volume of export of electricity produced in Belarus is determined primarily by the electricity price environment in Belarus, as well as in the Baltic States.
